Rafik Opti (b. 1997, Amsterdam) is an Afro-Indigenous hybrid filmmaker, multidisciplinary artist, researcher, and storyteller of Surinamese descent. A graduate of the Netherlands Film Academy, Rafik’s work navigates the intersections of film, visual art, and critical social analysis, with a dedicated dream on creating freedom within underrepresented communities. Having started in the field at a young age, Rafik brings over ten years of experience telling stories for renowned platforms and cultural institutions.

Grounded in a deep understanding of personal and collective histories, Rafik's artistic vision is shaped by their lived experiences. Their graduation film, BLACK JOY (Blaka Koloku), is an Afrofuturistic exploration of Black residents in Amsterdam, weaving narratives of joy and liberation. This work stands as a testament to Rafik's ongoing commitment to celebrating the strength and resilience of Afro-Diasporic people.

Most recently, Rafik co-directed Slay, the first Dutch TV series spotlighting Black and Brown trans women. This six-part documentary, which premiered on NPO and NTR, amplifies the voices of four trans woman of color, illuminating the beauty and struggles of the ballroom scene while creating a vital space for Black and Brown trans women within Dutch media.

In their film installation Self Made, Rafik delves into the power of Black and Brown trans individuals. Exhibited at Kunstlinie, the installation honors ancestral rituals and invites reflection on the intricate relationship between land, spirit and intimacy.
